Frequently asked questions.
Your Hard Bean questions answered.
Do I have to use the Hard Bean name?
Since we are not a franchise, you may choose the name of your store. The majority of our owners prefer to use a local moniker that will have some significance in their community and will tag this name with “Powered by Hard Bean Coffee.”
Why are you not a franchise?
Our owners are an independent bunch. They want to build a local coffee business and brand name without spending the hundreds of thousands of dollars in start-up costs and royalties required to purchase and operate a coffee franchise. For Hard Bean, all charges are included in our fee to help you build and open your coffee business.
How much will it cost me?
Our package as described is $169,500. In addition to those costs you will have to pay to build out your selected location which could cost you $50,000-$100,000.
How do I know if I qualify to purchase?
We will ask you to complete a confidential questionnaire that will help us understand your financial position. Once qualified, we will refer you to our third-party lenders for guidance on the most cost-effective manner in which to fund your business.
How do I find a location?
Once you have been approved for funding, you will want to contact a commercial realtor to assist you in finding that perfect location. We will provide location criteria to assist in your search and help you evaluate your options.
How much money can I make?
We do not provide earnings estimates. The time frame to recoup your investment and realize a profit depends on many factors, such as monthly overhead, hours of operation, cost of goods, the efficiency of staffing, etc. We will work with you throughout the entire start-up process and share our industry knowledge in all aspects of operating your business in the most efficient manner possible.
How many and what type of employees do I need to hire?
A typical Café will employ roughly 7 to 10 part-time employees on a regular basis. Good employees come in all ages and from all walks of life. The key is to hire friendly people with a bent toward customer service.
How much do I pay my employees?
Typically, employees are paid a reasonable hourly wage plus tips. The amount may vary based on several factors. Your Hard Bean representative will discuss with you what existing Hard Bean store owners typically pay.
How long will it take for me to open my business?
Once your funding and location have been secured, the build out, equipment installation and training is completed, usually within 90 – 120 days.
